“I consider it an honor to represent the people in the Precinct 2 community.  13 years before taking the oath to serve as your Commissioner in 2014, I was the Operations Manager for Precinct 2, managing the supervisors and their crews as they completed their work assignments for all daily and emergency needs that arose.  This provided me insight for administering the operation and budgeting needs of the office as a whole for the community. Discussing current and future goals with local neighborhood associations, combined with active listening and working together, I will continue to endeavor to make Montgomery County Precinct 2 an even more desirable place to live, work and play.  My obligation and goal is to serve the past, present and the future.”

– Commissioner Charlie Riley

Texas Soil and Water Stewardship Week.

Today, April 23, 2024, in Montgomery County Commissioners Court, Precinct 2 Commissioner Charlie Riley, read a proclamation to recognize the week of April 28 – May 5, 2024, Texas Soil and Water Stewardship Week.  Identifying the connection between soil and water conservation and the resilience of our FORESTS.

Forests contribute immeasurably to the well-being of our communities, our state, and the planet.  Beyond producing oxygen and storing carbon, as well as being havens for biodiversity, forests play a crucial role in safeguarding our soil and water resources. They stand as protectors, preventing erosion, filtering contaminants, and fostering healthy watersheds.

Precinct 2 hosts over 9,200 acres that include, Cook’s Branch Conservancy, Lake Creek Preserve, W.G. Jones Forest, the recently donated land for the future Precinct 2 Park off of Fish Creek Thoroughfare as well as the additional thousands of privately owned acreage within our community.

Since 1939, the Texas State Soil and Water Conservation Board, TSSWCB, and Soil and Water Conservation Districts, SWCDs, across the state have tirelessly worked to encourage responsible natural resource management.

In Texas, 11.7 million people get their clean surface drinking water from forests and as stewards of these precious natural resources, we must acknowledge and conserve the bond of soil, water, and forests, the intricate interdependence of these elements and we commit to conserving the beauty and vitality of our Texas landscape for generations to come. Together, let’s ensure that working our forests endure, our soil remains productive, and our waters flow sustainably.
